Service

Raj serves on the editorial board of the Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology journal. He is a guest associate editor for the section on cell adhesion and migration; and a review editor for the section on cell growth and division. His Loop profile could be accessed here.

He was a senior contributing editor for the Journal of Postdoctoral Research at its inception. (JPR is now published as the Journal of Life Sciences.) He has also served as ad hoc reviewer for Theoretical Biology and Medical modelling, Cardiovascular Diabetology, Cardiology, and the American Diabetes Association.

He co-chaired the session on “The Dynamic Extracellular Matrix—Development, Homeostasis, and Disease” at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Association For Anatomy. He also co-chaired the sessions on “Patterning and Morphogenesis” at the 63rd Annual Drosophila Research Conference.

Volunteering and Leadership Roles

Raj volunteered for the Johns Hopkins Cell Biology IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity in Actions) team. The team is composed of students, postdocs, and faculty, and it meets regularly to plan and help implement positive changes in the department to enhance inclusivity, diversity, and equity in the workspace. He also volunteered as the departmental representative for the Hopkins IBBS diversity seminars organizing committee.

Working with the members of JHPDA (Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association), Raj co-founded the postdoctoral research presentation club—a forum for research communication and constructive feedback with fellow trainees and expert faculty. It continues to provide an organized professional development space for postdoctoral trainees at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Prior to his appointment at Hopkins, Raj had volunteered for student-organized research forums at the University of Kansas ; for programs bringing science awareness to elementary school children in Kansas City, Missouri; and for health awareness and screening campaigns in the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, Mayetta, Kansas.
